Aldercar hasn’t fished very well on our recent visits so we were hoping for better this time as all anglers had plenty of room with a spare peg either side.  Dave Perry had drawn the Golden Peg for a second time in as many weeks.  Club favourite Craig Logan drew Peg 26 and was hoping to make it three wins in a row.  Craig got off to a good start catching Carp on hard pellet tight to the far bank before switching to fishing paste.  However, as the match progressed a couple of lost fish meant his catch rate started to slow.  But as Craig’s peg was slowed down Sue Read on Peg 28 was catching well, fishing hard pellets short and her peg was getting better as the match progressed.  Craig Radford loves this venue and was beside himself with excitement when he draw Peg 8.  Craig fished pellet shallow for most of the match, catching carp and the odd big Ide.  Sue’s son Danny was on Peg 14 – we think – as the pegging was wrong on the bank!  Danny was catching really well down his margin.  As always it came down to the scales to decide the winner and it was Craig Radford who came out on top, with Craig Logan having to settle for second.  Well done Sue for getting one over Danny again 😉.

The match this week was on our own waters, on the popular Roughs pond, which meant for another good turnout.  As always there was some good banter at the draw – some directed at club favourite Craig Logan for drawing a good peg for the second week running – but mainly at Ade Knighton for his amazing tactics on the previous day’s team match, getting his team to fish for Ide when there wasn’t any in the pond!

Shaun Fogg drew the golden peg this week but unfortunately as he was on Peg 7 it looked safe for another week.  Craig Logan was on Peg 13 and his brother Adan Logan was on the next peg 12 – both got off to a great start, matching each other fish for fish but as the match went on the fishing slowed for both,  Tony Males had drawn Peg 1 and was fishing long catching big F1s and Carp until disaster struck when his pole came apart when shipping back and got stuck to the far bank meaning he had to go into the water to get it out.  Unfortunately this killed his peg and he struggled to catch after.  There was talk of getting him disqualified for wading 😂

With an hour to go “The Treble” John Lowe on Peg 14 was starting to catch on paste and looked to be putting a weight of Carp together. It was another close match with most anglers catching good weights. First to weigh in was Tony on Peg 1 and he looked have won the match, putting 29lb on the scales.  The next good net of fish came from Adam Logan weighing 26lb but could his brother beat him….  With a fantastic weight of 31lb Craig not only beat his brother but had enough to win the match for the second week running.

Another good turn out this week with even more new faces fishing with us for the first time.  They must have heard about the friendly members, well run matches and light hearted banter – either that or they have found out that we’re pool fodder…😂  Regardless, it’s nice to see new faces fishing the matches.  The match this week was at the popular Kingfisher Pond at Beechwood, with more good pegs than bad.  There are always good weights and plenty of close battles and this was no exception with only ounces separating anglers at the end.

Junior member Ollie Flindall drew next to club favourite and all round good guy Craig Logan and he wanted revenge for the last time they fished by each other.  Craig Radford offered £10 to Ollie if he could beat Craig – easy money some might say.  Ollie got off to a great start catching three quick Carp in the first 15 minutes and putting the pressure on Craig.  Unfortunately for Craig he had Golden Oldie – AKA” The Tornado” – Ade Knighton pegged the other side of him, who was having problems playing Carp in his own peg and must have thought it would be easier playing them in Craig’s.  Apparently those WHITE CARP are hard to play!  A letter of complaint has been sent to the committee.

Meanwhile, Adam Logan on peg 12 and Ian Bradley on peg 13 were having a good battle matching each other fish for fish and only ounces between them both at the end.  There was another good battle going on at the top end of the pond between Ian Moon, Dave Perry, Lee Daft, and “The Treble” John Lowe – all four were catching well on the pole and at the end all four where admitting to 50lb plus.  First place went to Lee Daft on peg 24 – this was his first match with the club.  Lee fished meat down both his margins for most of the match catching Carp to 6lb.  Second place went to Dave Perry on peg 26 – Dave switched between fishing pellet shallow and on the deck before moving to his margins.  Third Place went to Adam Logan – Adam fished the feeder for most of the match but also caught odd Carp on the pole.  Special mention this week goes to Ollie who not only beat Craig off the next peg but also beating all the anglers around him, and was just out of the main money – well done Ollie.

This week’s highly anticipated match was on Privates Pond and with some new faces, over 20 people fishing and a extra £50 golden peg to be won everyone was looking forward to start.  Matches are normally extremely close on our waters and this match was no exception. Adam Logan fishing Peg 8 got off to a great start catching quality Roach on caster, but as the match progressed it was the golden oldies that started to make their mark on the match!  Ade Knighton fishing Peg 22 fed ground bait with casters and caught a 4lb Tench early and backed this up catching skimmers for the remainder of the match.  Dave Harris fishing peg 20 got off to a slow start but started to put a run of F1s together fishing maggot over Pellets.  Pegged next to Dave was The Treble – The Treble got off to a good start catching F1s but this slowed down as the match progressed.  It looked to be between the three but Ian Shaw had a fantastic last hour catching Carp and F1s on the drop.  At the all in nobody knew who had won with several anglers having a chance of framing.  Coming out on top was Ade Knighton with a impressive 11lb 14oz slightly over his 6lb easement – if his run continues I’m sure it won’t be long before we start having a presentation night again 😉

It was an unusually poor turn out this week but this did mean all anglers had plenty of room with two spare pegs either side, so the hope was for a good day’s fishing.  Sadly this wasn’t the case with all but the top 3 struggling.  First place went to Danny Geatto on peg 8 – Danny really struggled for the first four hours with the only sign of a bite coming from a duck!  In the final hour the Carp turned up down his margin and he made the most of it catching 14, to the frustration of all around him.  Second place went to Jonathon Leivers on peg 11. Third place went to Matt Geatto on peg 20.  Matt started fishing pellet on the deck but due to the amount of Gudgeon he switched to fishing shallow and picked off the odd Carp.

Another close match on Roughs pond with lots of little battles and plenty of banter.  Peg 1 won the last match on the venue and it looked like it was the peg to draw again with plenty of carp showing.

Adam Logan on peg 14 had a great start to the match – catching shallow fishing up to the floating island and on the deck.  He looked to be the man to beat but unfortunately a couple of lost fish seemed to slow down his catch rate.

Ian Shaw on peg 10 was also cursing lost fish.  Ian was fishing ground bait down his margin with either corn or worm on the hook and also pellet at 12m, catching Carp down his margin and a nice Bream at 12m.

Ian Bradley on peg 5 had been struggling for bites in until the last hour when he finally started to catch Carp fishing shallow feeding pellets.

Craig Logan on peg 2 caught over 30 skimmers fishing pellet at 14m but was unable to catch any bonus fish to add to his catch.

Ade knighton had drawn peg 22 and couldn’t wait to start calling time one minute early! Ade was sat between June Lowe and John Lowe AKA “The Treble”.  June definitely had them both worried, catching good sized Roach and Perch and the odd carp on worm before The Treble did what he does best and harpooned a carp of over 5lb, taking both the bragging rights and a section win.

Jonathon Leivers drew fancied peg 1, and caught mainly Carp, fishing pellets at 12m and 14m.

As Ade called time “on time” it was clear who was in the top 4 but it was going down to the weigh in to find out what order and who would get a section win.

The match this week was at Beechwood Fishery on Kingfisher.  We had a great attendance again this week which made the pegging tight but all anglers were still looking forward to a good day’s fishing regardless.  Kingfisher is normally a great match pond with large weights needed to frame and good back up weights.  The nice weather conditions meant lots of anglers started fishing shallow on the pole but with an hour gone and only a couple of Carp caught, people were soon trying other methods – however the lake was fishing hard.  Tony Males on favoured peg 13 was starting to wish he hadn’t bothered going back to his van for his third net before the start.  With 2 hours gone the only person catching was Ian Bradley on peg 28 – making the most of a corner peg – and Phil Kent on flyer peg 14.

Things were looking bleak and lots of anglers were now picking up their feeder rods.  It was hard to tell if they were fishing for Carp or  Squirrels with the amount of time they spent casting into the trees (Mick, Craig R, and Carl) much to the amusement of others.  The fishing started to improve for some anglers in the 3rd hour with Craig Logan, Carl Wilson And Dave Meakin putting a run of fish together.  The 4th hour was pretty much the same but Craig Logan found time to show the anglers around him how to play a Duck.  Finally in the final hour the fish started to feed with anglers starting to catch fish from all around the pond but it was too little too late for most.  Ady called time at exactly 14.59pm which was a good indication that his two match framing strike was over.  First place went to Ian Bradley on peg 28 – Ian fished hard pellet on the deck at 14m.  Second place was Craig Logan on peg 16 – Craig fished feeder with pin point accuracy to the far bank.  Third place was Phil Kent on peg 14.  Phil fished feeder to the far bank and pole short in the last hour.  Fourth place went to Carl Wilson on peg 37 – Carl fished feeder to the far bank (and on the bank!) catching carp to 8lb.  Fifth place went to Dave Meakin on peg 12.  Dave fished the feeder and pole, picking off the odd fish all day.
